I'm responding to the note in the 19th issue of The Cover Collector about how this forum may be taken down if members don't use it.
What is the threshold usage at which the Committee will continue to supply the Forum?
I take it there's a cost in having the Forum, both in using the actual software and in web-hosting, and in administration time.

Goodness me. What a slack little webmaster/mistress I am! Having checked EVERY day for months and months (and early on, several times daily), I finally let it go a few days, then a few more days and so it went. Have just checked tonight and see two new messages!!
The threshold for usage would have to be a heck of a lot more than it is at the moment Irwin. All you have to do is look at the responses to the early posts to see just how much interest has been taken (not!). It's disappointing when a lot of work has been put in and no-one takes advantage of it, but when all is done and dusted, if it does cease to exist, at least we tried!
The "cost" of the forum as far as software and web-hosting isn't anywhere near as much a concern as is the TIME ... and that's something that's not in abundance at its best! Lack of interest has killed many good projects in lots of areas other than philately.
Perhaps what we're learning out of this is that what people may want more is just somewhere they can drop in and have a look every so often to see what the latest "goss" is ... maybe. Relatively speaking, it's still early days so we'll just wait and see.
I must admit one of the things I would like is for the software to shoot off a message to someone when there has been a response to a question or comment - I think that would keep people on their toes more, but I'm not sure that the software running this is capable of that.
When I have some more TIME, I'll investigate that further. As you can see though, the response to the note in Journal #19 has been, well, underwhelming.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.
